Joe & Lauren ~ 24th April 2010

Posted in Wedding Gallery on May 18th, 2010 by RD

Weddings can be stressful at the best of times and with one bridesmaids stranded in Europe, it was a tense week before the wedding.

Yet with the “nothing can stop us” perseverance, the bridesmaid made it, the church was beautiful and the day couldn’t be better.

Joe & Lauren, you are truly wonderful people. Your smiles shine happiness and we wish you both every happiness in the world.

Photographer for the day – one of our favourites, Paul from Field of Vision.

Directing the Action

Posted in Wedding Gallery on May 9th, 2010 by RD

By Elizabeth Avery Merfeld - Posted May 7, 2010
Soon after becoming a finalist in the Event Dv All Star Team, I was approached by one of the journalists who asked me if I would contribute to a write up. I thought, “Why not?”. The questions were actually quite gruelling as I really had to think about my responses & how I felt about situations.

This is the extract from the Article:
Prewedding interviews and rehearsals are Morris’ opportunity to brief the couple on best practices for a great wedding film. It’s here that she will “speak about issues that affect what and how we film, such as how to exchange rings so that the camera gets a good shot.” Ironically, she says, getting a good view of the ring exchange isn’t a make-or-break, but rather a nice-to-have. But “talking about it makes clients realize we take our task of filming seriously, and that the little things matter.”

She often continues to offer direction at the rehearsal, limiting the amount of directing that will need to take place on the big day. She sees the rehearsal as “an opportunity to assess the situation and change possible variables.” To illustrate, she relates a story in which a pastor officiating the ceremony was an old family friend of the couple. Upon his direction to the bride to sit beside the groom on the front pew during the scripture readings, Morris said to herself, “Hmm … this man has no idea!” She discreetly pulled the bride aside for “clarification.” “So where is it that you’ll be sitting then?” she asked. The bride relayed the instructions, to which Morris replied with an alternate suggestion, that two seats be placed on the altar to make room for her flowing train, while reminding her that “ultimately, it’s her wedding day.” Sure enough, on the wedding day there were two seats on the altar. It’s in this way, posing suggestions and letting the couple decide how much direction to accept, that Morris realizes many of her ideas.

“Coaching is good,” she contends, in that it also “teaches couples that the camera isn’t so bad and that you really can be more natural when faced with an unnatural situation.” It’s an approach that works for Morris (below), but she’s quick to point out that others who are more aggressive in their direction can be just as effective. It all comes down to how smoothly you can pull off the command presence persona.

“Some people are better at communicating directions without seeming like they are directing. It’s an art that’s intuitive for some and can be learned by others.” At the StillMotion Australia workshop in February, Morris saw this firsthand, observing how the participants interacted with the couples. “Most of them made the couples feel comfortable, and they did whatever was asked of them. But there were times when I would shake my head and feel for the couple.”

Ross & Marie Trailer ~ 17th April 2010

Posted in Wedding Gallery on May 7th, 2010 by RD

Each person’s wedding story is individual. Dean asked me as he was working on this clip, “what was important about Ross & Marie’s wedding?” I thought instantly the same response that Dean gave – family.

So for Ross & Marie, their trailer focuses on what made their wedding day special for them. With the ceremony at St Therese’s in Essendon & Reception at the Eureka Towers, the day was awesome

Salvatore & Kerry ~ 28th March 2010

Posted in Wedding Gallery on April 11th, 2010 by RD

It’s an amazing site to see the beautiful surrounds of the Yarra Valley in Melbourne. Salavatore & Kerry chose the serene location of The Stones to host their ceremony & reception. The beautiful chapel was ideal and the venue has an old rustic charm.

The morning began before the sun rose. Dean arrived at Salavatore’s while I headed to off to Kerry’s home. The bridesmaids were busily getting prepared with hair & makeup, while the remaining members of the family enjoyed some extra quiet time.

With the amazing & talented Paul Grosveld from Field of Vision, our story unfolded.

Enjoy the trailer of Salvatore & Kerry.

Peter & Dani – Highlight

Posted in Wedding Gallery on April 7th, 2010 by RD

Peter & Dani are one of our couples that helped us in the Melbourne StillMotion workshop. The stories that evolved happened so naturally that it makes the day an amazing memory.

It was an early start for us as we woke at 4am…Dani slept in – she woke up at 5am :P . The morning was busy with lots of preparations by family members for the tea ceremony and lunch afterwards. With two family tea ceremonies, a civil ceremony at Treasury Building and photos on the grounds, the night was complete with a beautiful banquet of food.

It was a great day – enjoy Peter & Dani’s highlight.

Johann & Kayla

Posted in Wedding Gallery on March 23rd, 2010 by RD

Bubbly, fun & full of character…that’s how I would describe Johann & Kayla.

I spoke with Kayla on the Saturday before her wedding and she was telling me of the ’something special’ that she was giving to Johann. Knowing that guys always forget to tell me of their plans, I called Johann who assured me that nothing extraordinary was going to happen. He proceeded to explain that he still had to work on his speech…that this was a challenge and was a pretty extraordinary feat :)

With the church ceremony at St James & reception at the Brighton International, Melbourne, Johann & Kayla got married.

Paul & Suzanne – Same Day Edit 26th Feb 2010

Posted in Wedding Gallery on February 28th, 2010 by RD

The Story of Paul & Suzanne

Dean & I first met Paul & Suzanne about a year ago. Their personality, nature and excitement for their wedding day was so evident, and we had that ‘comfy chair’ feel – yep, we were the right people for them.

From that evening, we planned together what we were going to present on the night. They had previously showed a slide show at their engagement, so to share their story, we worked with them on an alternate shoot . It came out beautifully. This set the scene for our Same Day Edit.

With Peter Szilveszter from Living Lens as our colleague for the day, our goal was to make Paul & Suzanne’s SDE and event that was fun loving and true to their personality.

This is the story of Paul & Suzanne’s wedding day…

Damien & Shannon

Posted in Wedding Gallery on January 11th, 2010 by RD

For our first wedding of 2010, we travelled through country Victoria to the picturesque town of Seymour & Broadford, to film the wedding of Shannon & Damien.

We always enjoy shooting weddings out of the Melbourne metro area and this was no exception.

The rolling hills made a great backdrop to the wedding & nothing could beat riding the Harley for their grand entrance.

Hope you enjoy watching their trailer.
